about

Over the past decade Dutch electro act Staatseinde have met many earthlings. The idea for a collaboration project dates back to 2013 when Zacki from the German outfit UiJuiJui wrote the lyrics for a song named 'Crazy Earthlings' that he performed together with Staatseinde on a concert in Lüneburg. In the years that followed Staatseinde met several artists with whom they shared an overlapping interest in music.

In 2017 Staatseinde was asked to participate in the Nijmeegse Kunstnacht to set up a show with a local poet/writer for a three-in-a-row concert. The sci-fi poetry of Wout Waanders fitted so well with Staatseinde's music the initial collaboration idea from a few years back was rocket launched into the "Crazy Earthlings Collab" project. A selection of the songs they wrote for the show were recorded and Zacki was contacted to do the vocals to the song that logically became the title track of the tape. From there things went fast...

The result is a cassette with 11 tracks, nine of whom are collaborations. Beside three tracks with Wout Waanders and the Crazy Earthlings song with Zacki, five more artists contributed to the project.

A little explanation about the connection with the artists:
Lovataraxx: The day after one of the shows lined-up next to this band from France, a song was written that somehow sounded 'French'. Probably it wasn't a coincidence...

Sarah Malpass: The instrumental structure for the track existed for years but never made ground until the Crazy Earthlings project started. Having flirted with the idea of working together before, this track felt as a natural choice...

Sololust: Together with Andy Dufter they were once a duo in electro act Lesbian Mouseclicks. With this project the time was right for a new collaboration...

Born Machines: Although this isn't an actually collab, it feels fair to mention that the lyrics for the song were written by Frau Umlaut, former singer of the band from 2012 until 2015. The song idea was basically finished, but it was never recorded. Until now...

Butsenzeller: This local Antwerp multi-instrumental underground hero was a logical choice. After a remix he did for 'Repa', some shows and jamming together, the idea to record something was there for a while. When he heard the sketch for The Pieces, a refix and drum line was the way to go...

Arpatle: In the car together, on the way to a festival hearing the initial track, he had a "Spitz Idee" for a remix. Which is the reason to let the original track, that never had been released, appear on the tape as well...

Salvija Vaičikonytė: Meeting Salvija from Lithuania after a show in Gent must have been for a reason. She was there with paper and pencil for her project "Can you draw yourself". After showing some other work, it was clearly a perfect match to ask her for the cassette artwork
